MANZO, FINKE WINNERS AT LEBANON VALLEY

WEST LEBANON, N.Y. -- Eliminations are complete at the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Presented by Diamond RV being held this weekend at Lebanon Valley Dragway. Top Alcohol Dragster pilot John Finke and Top Alcohol Funny Car driver Frank Manzo earned wins and took home their share of cash and contingency awards worth more than $195,000.

Finke of Sellkirk, N.Y., got off to a fast start outrunning Dave DeAngelis of Middlesex, N.J., with a pass of 5.407 seconds at 265.06 mph. DeAngelis finished with a final pass of 5.565 seconds at 248.29 mph.

10-time Lucas Oil National Champion and in the running this year for his eleventh title, Manzo of Morganville, N.J., again showed why he is the man to beat in Top Alcohol Funny Car. In the final pass Manzo reacted well and never looked back leaving Paul Gill of Brockton, Mass., to settle for second place. Manzo ran a pass of 5.677 seconds at 255.53 mph, while the best that Gill could put together was a pass of 5.762 seconds at 247.93 mph.

Clinching the win in Comp Eliminator was Frank Aragona of Old Bridge, N.J., who ran a final pass of 8.517 seconds at 141.24 mph. Aragona defeated Lee Zane of Perry Hall, Md., who finished with a time of 9.098 seconds at 144.75 mph. In Super Stock the top prize went to Bryan Worner of Duncannon, Pa. Worner, driving a '88 Cutlass, ran a time of 10.824 seconds at 116.62 mph to earn the win over Guy DesJardins of St. Bruno, Quebec.

Rensselaer, N.Y., resident Tom Kreeber took home a trophy in the Stock Eliminator category with a win over Kenneth Miele of Egg Harbor Township, N.J. Also outlasting the field was Super Comp racer Bob Armstrong of West Peabody, Mass. Armstrong ran a final pass of 8.924 seconds at 150.00 mph to defeat Comp Eliminator winner Aragona. In Super Gas, the final ended with defending Lucas Oil National Champion Iggie Boicesco of Warminster, Pa., and Michael Sawyer of Acton, Mass. Boicesco showed why he is the champion beating Sawyer with a time of 9.901 seconds at 160.06 mph.

David Parker of Scotia, N.Y., ran a final pass of 10.900 seconds at 141.18 mph taking the win from Gary Federico of Hopewell, N.J., in Super Street. Top Dragster racer Val DiGenova of Derry, N.H., also made it to the winner's circle with a time of 7.519 seconds at 178.83 mph beating Jessica Willard Bucher of Woodbridge, N.J. Glen Puluse of Paterson, N.J., was also able to outrun the field driving a '98 Firebird and finishing with a time of 6.895 seconds at 198.41 mph. Puluse defeated Ron Riegel of Fairless Hills, Pa.
