Toyota Celica Funny Car heads to "The Strip" in Las Vegas in search of first victory.

LAS VEGAS (April 4, 2002) - Coming off an exciting second-place finish at the Gatornationals, Gary Scelzi and the White Cap Toyota Celica Funny Car head to "The Strip" at Las Vegas Motor Speedway for the NHRA SummitRacing.com Nationals, April 4-7, 2002.

Scelzi will pilot the White Cap Toyota Celica at the Las Vegas track for the first time since the car's initial test in January prior to the Winternationals in Pomona, Calif.

"Vegas can get hot and slippery, but Alan [Johnson] has a great tune up for that type of situation," Scelzi commented. "Plus, the Celica body gives us a lot of tools to change downforce on the front OF rear as we need it."

In only its third-ever race, Scelzi put the White Cap Toyota Celica in the final round, moving him up five places in the paint standings. After three rounds of the 2002 NHRA PDWERade Drag Racing Series, Scelzi occupies the fifth spot in the Top Fuel Funny Car standings with 175 national points.

"We're excited after reaching the final round of the Gatarnationals," Scelzi remarked. 'We've learned a lot about the car every race weekend. The team is really anxious to give Toyota and White Cap their firsst victory."

As the first import manufacturer to enter the NHRA POWERade top fuel ranks, the White Cap Celica Funny Car is showing positive progression. The team mads its first appearance at the 2002 NHRA season opener at the Pomona Raceway, reaching the quarterfinals.

Toyota's 2002 drag racing program will also include Toyota Racing Development engine support for two vehicles in the NHRA Summit Sport Compact Drag Racing Series. Christian Rado will campaign a 750-hp Celica in the Modified class, while Craig Paisley will race a 900- hp Tundra in the Pro Import class.
