RAIN PUTS A HALT TO RACING AT THE LUCAS OIL DRAG RACING SERIES EVENT AT LVMS

LAS VEGAS -- The Short Line Express Market Gambler Shootout, a round of the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, has been postponed because of rain. The event, which featured more than 800 cars in competition, will resume Monday morning at 8 a.m.

Competitors in Top Alcohol Dragster, Top Alcohol Funny Car and Sportsman Motorcycle have run first round of eliminations. All other classes have completed two rounds of eliminations.

The day started with a rain delay and racing got under way only to be delayed again at about 3 p.m. After it stopped, the track was nearly dry when it started raining again prompting NHRA and track officials to call it a day.

"We really wanted to get this one in today," said NHRA Pacific Division director Mike Rice. "Unfortunately, the weather hasn't cooperated and we're going to have to come back tomorrow."
