LAS VEGAS, Nev. (April 7) - Brian "Lump" Self, driver of the Lump Cylinder Heads Pro Stock Truck, in the third session of qualifying drove his Chevy S-10 to a 7.629 / 176.44 mph to take the eighth position of the eliminations ladder.

Self, who struggled in the first two rounds of qualifying, rebounded to place his truck in the top half of the field. Self talked about his difficulties in the earlier rounds.=20

"This racetrack is hard to tune for," said Self of Houston, Texas. "The lanes are so uneven that you have to change the set-up from lane to lane. It makes getting a handle on the racetrack difficult, but not impossible. We finally got it right in the third session, and left a lot on the table. That was really encouraging.

When Round 1 of eliminations gets under way on Sunday morning, Self will be paired against Mike Corvo.

"Lane choice is going to be real important on race day. I my opinion the race tomorrow will be won from the left lane, so keeping lane choice is going to be critical.

"I have Mike (Corvo) in Round 1. Mike can be real tough on the tree, but I will be ready for him. If we can get past Mike in the first round I think we will be all right. We are just going to have to take it one round at a time tomorrow."

Eliminations at the 2nd Annual SummitRacing.com NHRA Nationals will take place on Sunday April 8 at 11:00 AM PST.
