Skoal Racing Looking to Leave Vegas As Winners
Las Vegas, NV (October 25, 2007) -- Tommy Johnson Jr. is not a gambling man, but maybe he should be. Skoal Racing's Funny Car driver has had much success at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, and is expecting nothing less at the 2007 ACDelco Las Vegas Nationals this weekend.
"I always look forward to the races in Vegas," said Johnson. "It is my favorite track on the NHRA POWERAde tour and has treated our team well in the past."
One does not have to look much farther than just one year ago when Johnson posted a semifinal and runner-up finish (SummitRacing.com and Las Vegas Nationals, respectively) in both Vegas races. He raced to another semifinal finish in 2003 at the SummitRacing.com Nationals, and one year prior finished runner-up against Gary Densham. In 2001, he took home the gold at the SummitRacing.com Nationals, and now aims to celebrate another at this year's Las Vegas Nationals.
Johnson added, "I wish I could put my finger on what makes you more successful at some tracks than others. Whatever it is, I can't wait to get there. Too bad I don't gamble much or maybe I would be lucky both on and off the track."
There's certainly a comfort level here for Johnson, and although he may not be in the running for the POWERAde Championship in 2007, there is no lack of fire in his competitive spirit.
"We got runner-up last year at the second race and I would like to go one-up this year," said Johnson. "You are always looking for a strong performance at the end of the season, and with the way our Skoal Racing Impala is running right now, I think we are capable of rolling triple sevens this weekend."
Many have entered this city with high hopes and big dreams--some successful, others not. While the majority comes to gamble and score that big win, Johnson and Skoal Racing are here to race and show the NHRA world what they're made of. With solid preparation (and a little luck on their side) they aim to leave Las Vegas as champions of the ACDelco Las Vegas Nationals.
