PUZZLING DAY, BUT WILK STAYS 7th

Tim Wilkerson's Levi, Ray & Shoup Shelby Mustang acted up like the brat of the house on Saturday in Las Vegas, but Wilk stayed 7th on a day when almost all of the drama consisted of the bumping going on at the bottom of the ladder. After overpowering the track on his first run, Wilk came back and made a full pull under power in the final session, but his 4.219 was nowhere near quick enough to move him up. Just like Friday, the afternoon session was delayed and ended up being run under the lights, while conditions changed by the second.

Wilkerson will face Jim Head in round one on Sunday.

"I have no idea right now, but we will figure it out and we will fix it," Wilkerson said. "On the first run, it was going quicker than the run on Friday night, but with the sun on the track there wasn't enough grip out there for that. Tonight, we came back out there and it went from end to end, but it sure didn't do what we wanted it to do. It's just acting up right now, like race cars do sometimes, so we'll have to sort it out carefully tonight if we want to be in the middle of this thing tomorrow. Jim Head knows how to get his car from end to end as good as anyone, so we're going to have to run well to beat him."

As for that major drama at the bottom of the ladder, Ashley Force Hood had to bump her way into the show during the final session, but could only get in at the 14th spot. Her teammate, Robert Hight, is qualified 3rd. Therefore, the No. 1 and No. 2 players in the championship hunt, who came in here separated by less than a round of racing, will square off in a mega-important round one.
