WILK JUST MISSES TOP 12

Tim Wilkerson suffered a mechanical issue on his first lap, in his shiny and spectacular Summit Racing / LRS Shelby, on Friday. During Q2, he made a full A-to-B run but dropped a cylinder a little over one second into the pass and posted a 4.225. With the 12th spot being anchored by Jeff Arend's 4.218, Wilk missed the Top 12 and will enter Saturday with no official time on the board.

"On the first one, we broke a hunk off a piston at about half-track, so that was the end of that," Wilkerson said. "On the late run, it just mowed through the clutch enough to drop a cylinder and we ran three-fourths of the lap on seven. I just didn't have the curve set quite right and it got itself out of whack enough to put a hole out.

"We'll be out here tomorrow to race the race track and put up the best number we can for the great people at Summit Racing. I think it's safe to say this Summit Racing car is easily the nicest looking Funny Car on the grounds, because that's all I've been hearing from the fans, all day long. It was gorgeous on the computer when we saw the design, and it was great looking back at the shop, but to see it out in the sun here is a pretty neat deal. We didn't race as well as we wanted to today, but we looked good! Tomorrow, we'll get the whole package sorted out and put some good numbers up."
