Capps Makes Three 4.82-Second Runs to Qualify 10th at Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS (Oct. 30, 2004) -- Ron Capps and the green Skoal RacingSM crew continued to produced a consistent, fast tune-up as the 14-time NHRA winner made two additional 4.82-second passes Saturday at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Capps clocked his best run of qualifying on Friday evening after stopping the clocks in 4.820 seconds at 318.39 mph to claim the No. 10 qualifying position. On Saturday afternoon in the Nevada desert, the 2001 ACDelco Las Vegas Nationals winner used a consistent tune-up from co-crew chiefs Todd Okuhara and Phil Shuler to clock two more 4.82-second passes. Capps raced to a run of 4.825 at 319.67 on Saturday's first effort, before completing qualifying with a performance of 4.824 at 314.02 on his fourth attempt.

"Todd (Okuhara) and Phil (Shuler) did a great job this weekend," Capps said. "It's nice to be able to continue to run the way we did after the way we ran in Pennsylvania a few weeks back. Today just shows you how tough this Funny Car class really is. We made three runs at 4.82 and ended up 10th and we get John Force. To run 4.82 on Saturday's opening run with the sun on the track was pretty nice. If we can do that four times on Sunday, we'll be fine."

Capps faces longtime rival John Force in round one of Funny Car eliminations. Capps has a 7-33 career mark against Force.
