FULLER FLIES TO NO. 3 SPOT AT LAS VEGAS, MAKES THIRD FASTEST 1,000-FOOT PASS
LAS VEGAS (Nov. 1, 2008) -- Hot Rod Fuller qualified for his 84th consecutive NHRA race Saturday afternoon at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. The seven-time Top Fuel winner and defending event champion of the ACDelco Las Vegas Nationals clocked the third fastest 1,000-foot speed to qualify third.
Fuller entered the final day of qualifying for the penultimate race of the 2008 NHRA season ranked sixth in the 16-car order at 3.863-seconds. On Saturday's opening pass, Fuller raced the CAT Undercarriage dragster to a run of 3.900 seconds at 310.13 mph to remain sixth in the order. On his final qualifying attempt of the weekend, Fuller used a tune-up from veteran crew chief Rob Flynn to post a blistering run of 3.816 seconds at 318.39 mph to qualify in the No. 3 position. It was the second fastest 1,000-foot speed and Fuller's quickest and fastest pass to 1,000-feet. Only the U.S. Army dragster has gone faster. It is the third time that Fuller has qualified third this season.
"That was an awesome run," Fuller said. "That's how this CAT car is supposed to run. It felt great. It brought me back to last fall when we doubled-up here at (Las) Vegas. I'm really confident about tomorrow. I have a really good feeling. I'm excited to go some rounds and put on a show for all the home fans here in (Las) Vegas. And maybe we can keep these (CAT) Undercarriage tracks on the car more often. The goal is to go out and run over the competition tomorrow."
The hometown hero will match-up against No. 14 qualifier Tim Boychuck in the opening round of Top Fuel eliminations at 11 a.m. (PT) on Sunday at the Las Vegas NHRA race. They have never met during eliminations.
