Troxel leads R2B2 assault on Pro Mod qualifying ladder
LAS VEGAS (Oct. 29) -- Melanie Troxel drove her In-N-Out Burger to a 5.925-second pass at 243.94 mph down The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway to lead Friday's action in the Get Screened America Pro Mod Drag Racing Series.
Troxel's strong pass highlighted a great day for R2B2 Racing. Team owner Roger Burgess is third in his ProCare Rx Camaro after a best pass of 5.984 at 242.89 mph, while teammate Ray Commisso is a few thousandths of a second back in fifth place with a 5.987 at 242.41 mph.
"You can't ask for a better start," Troxel said. "To come out and put up a number that's six-hundredths clear of the field affords you the opportunity to really get after it in Round 2, which is exactly what we did. It ended up that we weren't quicker but we were fast again and not many cars got down the track so we're really happy.
"It's interesting but I'm starting to feel a bit nostalgic about this because it's looking more and more like I won't be running Pro Mod next year. We're going to concentrate on the Funny Car and running all the races so this could be it for Pro Mod. It would be great to go out with another win."
Burgess was pleased with his team's effort and says things could get even better during Saturday morning's final qualifying session.
"I'm expecting similar conditions so we should all be running in the low 5.9s like Melanie did," Burgess said. "When we come into a race the first objective for our team is to get all three cars comfortably in the field as quickly as possible. We did that today, and even better we're all up at the top so we're excited."
