LAS VEGAS, Nev. -- Mark Whisnant, driver of the RW Performance / Snap-On Tools Pro Stock Chevrolet Cavalier is looking forward to his return to the Strip at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Whisnant likes his chances at this weekend's 3rd annual AC Delco Las Vegas Nationals, and believes he can improve on his past performance at this racetrack.
Last spring at the Strip, Whisnant qualified sixth and went all the way to the semi-finals before losing to Kurt Johnson. Whisnant feels confident that this weekend he can surpass his last outing at a track many have difficulty getting down.
"I feel good about this weekend," said Whisnant of Stockbridge, Ga. "It is no secret that we have been struggling in the last part of this year, but I believe that may be behind us now.
"In the last couple of weeks we have worked very hard to make the car right. As far as transferring the horsepower to the racetrack, we feel in that respect, we have made huge gains. You can have all the motor in the world, but if the car is not set up correctly, you are still not going to get down the racetrack.
"In regards to horsepower, Steve (engine builder Steve Schmidt) found something on the dyno last week. So, we will be right and where we need to be on horsepower for this weekend's race.
"In these last two races we would like to make a good showing. Getting in the race and going a couple rounds would be that best way I could think of to thank Snap-On and Chevrolet for their support.
"Now I am not a betting man, but from the looks of things this could be a very good race for this RW Performance / Snap-On Tools Cavalier."
Qualifying at the third annual AC Delco Las Vegas Nationals will take place on Friday Oct 24 and Saturday Oct. 25. Eliminations will begin at 11:00 AM PST on Sunday Oct 26.
