Miller Lite Team no. 2 in Las Vegas qualifying.
LAS VEGAS (Oct. 26) - Miller Lite Don Prudhomme Racing Top Fuel driver Larry Dixon will roll the dice on Sunday in hopes of capturing his first NHRA POWERade championship title, but before he gets his opportunity to attempt that assignment, the AC Delco NHRA Nationals on 'The Strip' at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway lie ahead.
Dixon powered his Miller Lite Top Fuel dragster into the No. 2 qualifying position on the qualifying ladder after his run of 4.569 seconds, 323.81 mph, and will take on No. 15 qualifier, Scott Weis in the first round of eliminations.
In Dixon's other passes, the Miller Lite team exhibited crew chief Dick LaHaie's reliability with the setup of the car after runs of 4.581 and 4.588 seconds along with a top speed of 324.20 mph and held the No. 1 spot through the first three rounds before just being edged in the final session. "It's a really good racetrack," said Dixon. "We found some consistency with the car and consistency to run quick, too, like our three runs in the 4.50s.
"It went out there on our last run and rattled the tires so I shut it off. I think we're in good shape for tomorrow and we get to race Scott Weis again. We'll go up there, give it our best shot and see what happens." The Miller Lite team heads into final eliminations with a 110-point NHRA POWERade championship advantage, having increased the distance by two more points gained in qualifying.
ESPN will air final round coverage from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. ET. The opening round of eliminations for the AC Delco NHRA Nationals will start promptly at 11:00 a.m. PT on Sunday morning.
