Doug Kalitta will lead Team Kalitta into final eliminations in Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS, (Oct. 27, 2007) -- At the ACDelco Las Vegas NHRA Nationals at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in Las Vegas, Doug Kalitta, driver of the special edition Mac Tools/Long Way Down Top Fuel dragster, will enter Sunday's final eliminations from his highest qualifying effort to date in the 2007 NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series.

Doug, who qualified in the lofty No. 2 spot, 4.528 seconds, 331.04 mph, will race against No. 15 qualifier and European drag racing champion Urs Erbacher (4.594 sec., 326.48 mph) in the opening round of Top Fuel eliminations.

Doug's cousin Scott Kalitta, driver of the DHL Toyota Solara Nitro Funny Car, will also begin tomorrow's quest for the Las Vegas title trophy from the top-half of his class's eliminations field. Scott, the No. 8 qualifier, 4.788 sec., 323.50 mph, will race No. 9 qualifier Mike Ashley (4.796 sec., 328.86 mph) in the first round for the fuel floppers.

Dave Grubnic, who is driving the special edition Endothil0x00ae-CR and Oxydrene0x00ae Top Fuel dragster this weekend, qualified his racing machine in the No. 13 qualifying slot, 4.561 sec., 328.94 mph. He will face off against No. 4 qualifier Rod Fuller (4.529 sec., 326.32 mph) in round one.

Grubnic also participated in the special race-within-a-race event, the Technicoat Top Fuel Shootout, Saturday. Grubnic raced against Fuller in the first round of that event as well. The two drivers put on a great side-by-side show for the capacity crowd at The Strip, but it was Fuller that just barely picked up the win, 4.561 sec., 328.94 mph to 4.576 sec., 324.20 mph, to eliminate Grubnic. The margin of victory for Fuller was a mere .0007 seconds.

Hillary Will, driver of the Kalitta Motorsports-managed, Ken Black-owned KB Racing LLC Top Fueler, failed to qualify for tomorrow's eliminations.
