Las Vegas, NV --With a weekend top speed of over 313 mph, Cruz Pedregon and the Advance Auto Parts Racing Team made two strong qualifying passes last weekend at "The Strip" at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, allowing them to make their way into the Sunday Elimination show.  As twenty-five Funny Car competitors battled it out over sixteen qualifying positions, the Advance Auto Parts Racing Team was able to secure the number fourteen spot at the ACDelco Las Vegas NHRA Nationals.

"We were able to make a few decent runs during qualifying," commented owner/driver Cruz Pedregon, "We needed to run quicker at this particular track to stay competitive, as the bump was a 4.93 et.  We were able to make the show, but just didn't have enough to make it past first round on Sunday."

Friday's best run took place during the first session.  With a 4.956 et at 311.27 mph, Cruz Pedregon was able to take the number ten spot on Friday evening.  Although Cruz improved his time to a 4.918 et/313.29 mph during Saturday's session, the Advance Team was bumped into the number fourteen spot; paired with Whit Bazemore on Sunday morning.  Despite Cruz's quick reaction time, the Advance Auto Parts funny car spun the tires at approximately 200 feet with at least 2 attempts prior pedaling the car.

As the end of the 2002 POWERade Drag Racing Season winds down, the Advance Auto Parts Racing Team looks forward to competing at the season finale in Pomona, CA, November 7-10th.
