Advance Auto Parts Funny Car Racing Team eager to run at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
Las Vegas, NV -- Cruz Pedregon and the Advance Auto Parts Funny Car Racing Team will return to "The Strip" at Las Vegas Motor Speedway this weekend, to compete at the second annual ACDelco Las Vegas NHRA Nationals, October 24th-27th. As the second-to-last event of the POWERade Drag Racing Series quickly approaches, Advance Auto Parts Team Members are more than anxious to showcase what they learned during their last test session.
"The Las Vegas facility is an excellent track," states owner/driver Cruz Pedregon, "With the drag strip still being relatively new, it gives all teams a fair shake at winning. We (the team) are going into this particular race with a lot of determination; we have tried many different combinations throughout the season and we know what type of tune-up will work at facilities similar to Vegas. Our test session in Dallas last week gave us brand new information that will really help us in determining the set-up this weekend. We are positive that anything can happen at this event -- we could easily end up going many rounds and with a little luck -- win the race."
In addition to his responsibilities at the track, Cruz Pedregon will also be making a few appearances in the Las Vegas area prior to the event. On Wednesday, October 23rd, Cruz Pedregon will be signing autographs at King Ranch Market from 3 to 5 pm. The Advance Auto Parts showcar will be on display as well as a KRRN-FM live remote. Prizes from Cruz Pedregon Racing and the station will be given away during the session. Cruz will also be signing autographs, alongside other NHRA professional drivers, at the ESPN Zone at New York, New York Hotel and Casino. The session will be held from 7 to 8 pm on Thursday, October 24th.
The ACDelco Las Vegas NHRA Nationals professional qualifying sessions will take place on Friday, Oct. 25th at 2:45 PM and 5:45 PM and Saturday, Oct. 26th at 11:15 AM and 2:15 PM. Final Eliminations will begin on Sunday, Oct. 27th at 11:00 AM. Professional competitors in four categories will earn points leading to the 2002 NHRA POWERade championships. Cash and contingency prizes of more than $2 million dollars will be awarded at the Las Vegas event.
