LAS VEGAS -- Cory McClenathan, from Anaheim, Calif., driver of the Henkelman & Baca Berryman B-12 Chemtooler Top Fuel Dragster, begins his final blitz for points in the NHRA POWERade point standing as the NHRA AC-Delco Las Vegas Nationals gets under way this weekend at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
With two races remaining on this year's schedule, McClenathan is fifth in the Top Fuel point standings entering this weekend's event. He has 1277 points, 26 points behind Tony Schumacher in fourth and 36 behind Doug Kalitta in third. Larry Dixon and Kenny Bernstein, in first and second respectively, have distanced themselves from the rest of the field and now the battle for McClenathan is for third.
"Our goal is still third place in the final POWERade point standings," said McClenathan. "This Berryman B-12 Chemtooler Dragster is running pretty well at this time and entering this Vegas race we're less than two rounds behind third. We hope to return the support that Berryman Products have given us for the final two races by moving up to third in points."
McClenathan debuted the Berryman B-12 Chemtooler Top Fueler at the NHRA O'Reilly Fall Nationals at the Texas Motorplex two weekends ago and raced to a runner-up finish. Following that event, Berryman Products' Chief Operating Officer John Ehlert announced the extension of a marketing partnership through the end of the 2002 NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series.
McClenathan and Henkelman & Baca Motorsports will receive local support while in Las Vegas from Sam's Town. The Henkelman & Baca Berryman B-12 Chemtooler Top Fuel Dragster will be on display at Sam's Town Hotel & Gambling Hall in Las Vegas on Thursday from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m. with Cory Mac signing autographs from 6:30 p.m. until 9 p.m.
"I want to thank Berryman Products and Sam's Town for their support here in Vegas," said McClenathan. "We race because we love the sport but we couldn't do it without the support of companies like Berryman Products and Sam's Town. Also, the season-long support of Centennial Batteries, Pure Power Lubricants, Mac Tools, Don Steves Chevrolet, Goodyear, Strange Engineering and Champion Spark Plugs have enable this Henkelman & Baca team to be a top five contender throughout 2002.
