LAS VEGAS, Nev. -- Today at the 4th annual Summitracing.com Nationals in Las Vegas, Nev. Greg Anderson shattered both sides of the Pro Stock track record when he drove his Vegas General Construction Pontiac Grand Am to a 6.880 / 201.28 to take the Number 1 position.
"I am real pleased with our performance here today," said Anderson. "This is what we came here to do. Qualifying Number 1 here is so important to my team. After last falls DNQ, we worked real hard to try to rectify that deal.
"Over the winter we looked at last season and realized that the altitude tracks were the weakest part of our program. We worked very hard to make that part stronger. We came here and tested three times over the winter, and went to Bristol prior to coming here. I expected to come here and run well, but I did not expect to come here and run this fast at this altitude.
"We are number 1 right now, but the pole is not secure yet. It is supposed to be cooler tomorrow morning; if that is the case, it could be possible for us or someone else to step-up and go faster.
"Qualifying Number 1 here today is just a testament to how well our program has come together. Every week we make gains. I believe I have the best team out here, the best motor shop back home, and the best car owner. Right now (team owner) Ken Black is one happy man.
"I owe so much to my sponsors Vegas General Construction, Fairway Chevrolet, Mac Tools, and Pontiac. They make it possible for us to be here. Being able to qualify Number 1 in my sponsors' hometown is a good way to pay them back for all they do for us. I would like to go one better on Sunday, and place this Vegas General Construction Pontiac in the winner's circle."
Qualifying continues on Saturday April 5. Eliminations take place on Sunday April 6.
