World, Track Records Fall To Goodyear's D2096

LAS VEGAS, Nev. (April 4, 2004) -- Goodyear's new rear drive tire for the Top Fuel and Funny Car classes set world and track records during the NHRA SummitRacing.com Nationals at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Goodyear is the exclusive tire supplier for the NHRA's Top Fuel and Funny Car classes.

Doug Kalitta recorded the fastest pass in Top Fuel history, a stunning 335.57 mph, during qualifying and Scott Kalitta set a track record with his 4.472-second qualifying pass. Cars equipped with the D2096 set both records.

Goodyear-shod cars won five class victories at Las Vegas, best among tiremakers. Tony Schumacher used the D2096 to win the Top Fuel class and Phil Burkhart did the same in Funny Car. Greg Anderson won with Goodyear in the Pro Stock class, Morgan Lucas won in Top Alcohol Dragster and Vinny Deceglie won the Competition Eliminator class.

Tony Pedregon set a track record for elapsed time in Funny Car (4.747 seconds) and Gary Densham set a track mark for top speed in the same class (327.27 mph). The Funny Car records were set in qualifying.

Anderson improved the track record in Pro Stock for both elapsed time (6.812 seconds) and top speed (202.03 mph). Goodyear leads all tiremakers in NHRA national event victories this season.
