LAS VEGAS, pre-race: Doug Herbert will be looking to increase his odds of winning an NHRA world championship with a solid performance this weekend at the NHRA Nationals at 'the Strip' at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
The driver of the Snap-on Tools/Doug Herbert Performance dragster remains in the Top 10 in the tight POWERade Drag Racing Series Top Fuel point's battle, holding down the No. 7 position. Herbert's two semifinal finishes have been punctuated with two first round losses, but the Snap-on team is quickly beginning to jell and that will lead to consistent performances down the road. Herbert had a strong set of qualifying runs in Houston with a 4.58, 4.53, 4.73 and 4.60. The Snap-on team's strong effort earned the crew the Full Throttle Pit Crew Challenge award in Houston and also helped to continue to boost their confidence.
"We really turned things around during qualifying in Houston," remarked Herbert. "After our dismal qualifying effort in Gainesville the crew really came together to earn a semifinal finish during eliminations. We plan to continue that same strong work ethic in Las Vegas. The Snap-on team provided me with a very consistent dragster in Texas. If we can apply the same effort on race day that we did during qualifying in Houston we should be able to find our way into the winner's circle in Las Vegas."
Herbert will begin his weekend in Las Vegas by attending the free NHRA driver autograph session at the ESPN Zone on Las Vegas Blvd., Thursday April 6 from 7-8 p.m. All Doug Herbert fans are invited to attend and have a chance to speak to 'Dougzilla' in person.
