Baca jumps to fifth in points.

LAS VEGAS (April 6, 2003) -- David Baca, driver of the Henkelman & Baca Motorsports/American Racing/Waterloo Tool Storage/YP.Net Top Fuel Dragster, advanced to his second consecutive semifinals appearance at the fourth annual NHRA SummitRacing.com Nationals at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

En route to the semis, Baca defeated Jim Head in the opening round, Darrell Russell in the quarterfinals before losing to Larry Dixon in the semifinals.

"I was on him but it spit the belt (broke the blower belt)," said Baca of his semifinal loss to Brandon Bernstein. "This team is coming together and I believe we're going to win one of these things. We're still paying our dues though. Four days from now we do it again. I heard we moved to fifth in points -- awesome!"

Making a gigantic leap into the top five in points, Baca now has 212 points and holds fourth place in the NHRA POWERade(r) Top Fuel point standings after four of 23 events. The top five members in Top Fuel points are: 1.) Larry Dixon with 403 points; 2.) Brandon Bernstein, 59 behind with 344 points; 3.) Doug Kalitta, 131 back with 272 points 4.) John Smith, 173 behind with 230 points; and 5.) David Baca, 191behind with 212 points.

The next race for Baca and the Henkelman & Baca Motorsports/American Racing/Waterloo Tool Storage/YP.Net Top Fuel Dragster is the 16th annual O'Reilly Spring Nationals presented by Pennzoil.. The event at Houston Raceway Park will be contested next weekend April 10-13.
