Dave Connolly Races Jason Line in Las Vegas Event Sunday
LAS VEGAS - Somebody turned up the heat in this gambling Mecca this weekend, but Dave Connolly, Terry Adams, Bill "Grumpy" Jenkins and the crew of Mike Dzurilla's Bullet Motorsports Pro Stock team had an answer for it.
With temperatures in the high 80s, Connolly produced the quickest run of the last qualifying session in the heat of the day. He also posted the second-best time of the first qualifying session for Sunday's SummitRacing.com Nationals at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
Oddly enough, both times were 6.864 seconds, the first at 201.37 mph, and the second at 201.49 mph.
While those runs weren't quick enough to surpass his Friday run of 6.859 seconds that put him seventh, they provided the tuning foundation for Adams and Jenkins to use in eliminations. "I think we are in good shape for tomorrow," said Connolly, who will be driving the Chevrolet Cavalier for the last time. The team debuts a new Chevrolet Cobalt at Bristol, Tenn., in two weeks.
"Grump tried some different stuff on the first run and it helped us get down the track," Connolly continued. "He decided to make a few more little changes and they worked on the second one. He's getting a good handle on it. I think the motors are the best they've been all year.
Connolly races Jason Line in the opening round Sunday. "I hope we can go out with a big day," he said.
If the weather forecasters can be trusted, another day of 88-degree temperatures is expected. And that should play to the Bullet team's strength.
