Morgan ready for another E-town trophy run
ENGLISHTOWN, N.J. – Driver of the Lucas Oil Ford Mustang Pro Stock Car Larry Morgan is returning to the site of a past victory with a growing sense of confidence.
Going into this wekeend's NHRA SuperNationals, Morgan's Ford is performing better at every race. It seems the only thing that is slowing the car down at this point is Mother Nature.
"We couldn't test last week because it rained so much," Morgan said. "It didn't stop raining until right before we were ready to leave for this weekend's race. So we're going to pack it up and test after Englishtown.
"Either way, we're ready to go this weekend."
Morgan has qualified for every race this season and currently sits in 13th place, 82 points behind the 10th place car belonging to fellow Ohioan Ron Krisher. After the U.S. Nationals in September, the top 10 cars in the points qualify for the Countdown to 1, the NHRA Full Throttle Series version of the postseason.
"We've got plenty of power to run good and qualify," Morgan said. "We just need to make good runs on Sundays."
Morgan said this season has been a battle, despite the uptick in performance.
"We need to be prepared when this race starts," Morgan said. "That's what we haven’t been this year. We've been working on clutch stuff and trying other things because we've not been able to go test.
"Getting that opportunity to test next week is going to be big for us."
First Morgan plans on taking care of business at Old Bridge Township Raceway.
"As simple as it sounds, we just need to make good runs," Morgan said. "If we do that, we'll be sure to make Lucas Oil, Ford and Summit proud."
