With last-minute assist, Morgan points Lucas Oil Mustang to Pomona
POMONA, Calif. (Feb. 23) -- It took some last minute financial help, but Larry Morgan and his Lucas Oil Ford Mustang Pro Stock car will be at the starting line when the 51st annual Kragen O'Reilly Auto Parts NHRA Winternationals starts this Thursday.
"Speedco Truck Lube came through at the last minute and really helped us," Morgan said. "I've got great sponsors in Lucas Oil, Summit, and Ford and I can't wait to get out there and kick some butt for all of them this year."
Part of Mogan's race income comes from his engine shop, and there's not a lot of customers out there right now, which left him fighting for funding to get the year started.
"Until I get out there and run real good to get a Ford customer, it's going to be tough for me," Morgan said. "I decided that if I can't do it right, I'm not going to do it. Thankfully I got some help to get my car out there."
Morgan said he was busy during the offseason perfecting his second-year Ford program and the results during preseason testing have given him something to smile about.
"We've done more with the engine and the car in the last two months than we did all last year," Morgan said. "It gave us time to help us concentrate on making a better program. I think we're going to do well; I'm really counting on it.
"We went 6.523 (seconds) at 211.88 mph at testing. I'm really happy with that and looking forward to going out there and racing."
