This Week in Ford Racing
August 18, 2010
Larry Morgan, driver of the Lucas Oil Ford Mustang in the NHRA Pro Stock Class, showed his highest qualifying effort of the 2010 season last weekend in Brainerd. This is Morgan's first year racing the Ford Mustang and he talks about last weekend's efforts and the progress the Ford Pro Stock program this season.
YOU QUALIFIED SEVENTH LAST WEEKEND IN BRAINERD. "We're real happy with that. We've been working real hard on this program and now it's starting to show a lot of hope. I've got to tell you Mose Nowland [Ford Racing Engine Engineer] has been behind this deal for Ford and working to make this happen. We're so proud of the situation we're in. We've worked real, real hard in the last few months to keep these engines together and it's been real good for us. I think Ford is on a big comeback."
YOU'VE SAID YOU'VE BEEN WORKING HARD WITH MOSE NOWLAND ON THIS PROGRAM. CAN YOU GIVE AN UPDATE ON THE PROGRAM? "I would say that we're way better off than where we started earlier in the year. The parts are absolutely the best parts I've ever had. Its awful good stuff and I've been racing for a long time but these parts are killer. They're the best we've ever had and that's all due to Mose's years of experience. He has to be one of the top employees of the program. I'm real proud to be a part of the Ford program and helping him get this done. You're going to see that we're going to keep getting better and better."
YOU'RE GOING INTO INDY NOT IN THE COUNTDOWN. WHAT ARE YOUR GOALS DURING THE COUNTDOWN? "I'm going to try and kick everybody's butt. That's what I want to do. We need to win races now and help get Ford on the map. That's what this is all about."
THIS IS YOUR FIRST FULL SEASON DRIVING A FORD AND WORKING ON THIS PROGRAM. WHERE DO YOU HOPE TO BE AS FAR AS PROGRESS GOES NEXT YEAR? "Hopefully by the first race we'll be one of the top five cars. The reason that I say that is, that it's so tough out here in our class to stay on top of the program. I think we've done a fine job with what we've had to work with this year. We've had everything brand new. Last year at this time there wasn't a Ford part in the shop and to go out there and be in the top half at this point in time we've done real well and our team is real proud of that."
