Rain Dampens Saturday Testing at Phoenix as Dixon Makes Quickest Run of Preseason Testeing

CHANDLER, Ariz. (Jan. 29, 2005) -- Larry Dixon posted his quickest pass of preseason testing at Firebird International Raceway before gusty winds and rain showers canceled Saturday's final two test sessions.

Dixon used a tune-up from champion crew chief Dick LaHaie to clock a performance of 4.740 seconds at 256.89 mph in his Miller Lite dragster. The two-time NHRA Top Fuel champion made three passes on Friday with his best run of 5.073 at 188.65.

"We went a little further on our one run today," Dixon said. "We had to soften up the tune-up so the car would stop shaking the tires. We went to about the 1,000-foot mark before we clicked it off. That run gives us the opportunity to look at the data and parts and make some adjustments and keep on working on our game."

Dixon and he Miller Lite/Lucas Oil team will return to action Sunday at the Phoenix-area track and continue testing through the early portion of next week in preparation for the 2005 season-opening event, Feb. 10-13, at Pomona (Calif.) Raceway.
