DIXON CONTINUES TO POST SOLID NUMBERS DURING INDY TEST
CLERMONT, Ind. (Aug. 24, 2005) -- After racing his Miller Lite Top Fuel dragster to the quickest elapsed time of the first day of the two-day open test session (4.553-seconds) at Indianapolis Raceway Park, two-time NHRA Top Fuel champion Larry Dixon posted three solid runs Wednesday at I.R.P. as Don Prudhomme's Top Fuel team continued to gear up for next weekend's Mac Tools U.S. Nationals.
The 37-time NHRA winner used a tune-up from veteran crew chief Dick LaHaie to power the Miller-backed rail to a run of 4.555 seconds at 327.35 mph on Wednesday's first effort. Following a lengthy delay due to an oil down, Dixon turned in a pass of 4.575 at 328.06 on his second attempt. On his final test run of the day, Dixon blasted to his best effort of the two-day test as the Miller Lite/Ameriquest rail stopped the I.R.P. timers in 4.524 at 328.70. It was the second quickest run of the day.
"We've run the car in various track and weather conditions and the car has been very tunable," Dixon said. "I would assume that Dick (LaHaie) would be happy with the progress that we've made, and if Dick's happy, then I'm happy."
Dixon and the Miller Lite Top Fuel team will return to the historic Indiana quarter mile on Thursday, August 25, for a private tire test session for Goodyear before making the short drive to the team's Brownsburg, Ind. race shop to prepare for the 51st annual Mac Tools U.S. Nationals, Aug. 31-Sept. 5. Dixon has earned two of his 37 career wins at the U.S. Nationals (1995, 2001).
