CLERMONT, Ind. (Aug. 24, 2004) - Following his 35th career victory this past weekend in Memphis, Tenn., two-time defending NHRA Top Fuel champion Larry Dixon and his Miller Lite crew made two test passes Tuesday at Indianapolis Raceway Park in preparation for next weekend's 50th annual Mac Tools U.S. Nationals.

After making the nearly 500-mile trip from Memphis to I.R.P. on Monday, the Miller Lite crew serviced the dragster on Tuesday morning before making two runs during the afternoon to gather data to improve the performance of the Don Prudhomme-owned dragster. Dixon drove his Miller-backed rail to half-track before lifting and coasting to a run of 6.071 seconds at 152.61 mph on his first test pass. The two-time U.S. Nationals winner (1995, 2001) then blasted his Dick LaHaie-tuned dragster to a performance of 4.717 at 267.06 before the skies opened causing the teams to call it quits for the day.

"This is our biggest race of the year and everybody puts a lot of precedence on it," Dixon said. "Dicko (Dick LaHaie) says if we win this race, it will salvage our season. We're trying to sort out some engine and clutch stuff to make our car perform better."

Dixon and the Miller crew will return to the famed multi-purpose racing facility on Tuesday morning to continue their preparation for drag racing's marquee event, Sept. 1-6.
