Team Jeg's has record breaking performance and grabs the top spot
Mike Coughlin entered the third round of qualifying with the number one qualifying position in hand, and high hopes of setting a new national record. His goal was realized when he guided his yellow and black Jeg's Mail Order S-10 to an impressive run of 7.379 seconds at 182.65 mph. Mike's record shattering run set new national marks for both ET and speed.
"We're really excited that Team Jeg's could raise the bar for performance in Pro Stock Truck. I can't say enough for everyone who works so hard to make this Chevy S-10 perform. We've been working really close with Carl Foltz of CFE Racing on our engines and it is obviously paying off. It's been a total team effort from the beginning and that is why it works," said Mike after his record setting run.
Team Jeg's driver Mike Coughlin opted to sit out the final round of qualifying for a third consecutive race following a request from the NHRA Tech Department to examine the components of the "GR-X" engine that powers his Jeg's Mail Order machine. Bypassing the final round of qualifying gave the team ample time to carefully tear down the impressive in-house power plant.
"I've never had a national record before. It's really pretty exciting. Sitting out the last run gives our team time to put everything back together for tomorrow. This is a really tough class. If I can do my part as the driver, we should have as good a chance as anyone tomorrow," commented Mike after round four.
Mike retained his number one qualifying position despite sitting out the final qualifying attempt. Team Jeg's has high hopes of putting the yellow and black colors back in the winners circle for the third time in as many races. Mike will face off against Scott Tidwell in the opening round.
