JOLIET, Ill. (Sunday June 3) - Mark Whisnant, driver of the PiranaZ Chevrolet S-10, entered eliminations at today's 4th Annual Lucas Oil Products NHRA Nationals in the 13th position on the Pro Stock Truck eliminations ladder.

Whisnant met Todd Patterson in Round 1. Patterson took advantage of lane choice to place Whisnant in the bad right lane. That was Whisnant's undoing. The two were even at the starting line, but at the top end Whisnant lost traction giving Patterson the win. Patterson ran a 7.440 / 180.77 mph to Whisnant's 7.482 / 180.07 mph.

"The same story, different location" said Whisnant. "I cut a good light but he just stayed right there with me all the way to the finish line. My hats off to Todd and his crew.

"Right now we are just a hair off of what some of these guys are running. We are pulling everything we can out of this truck. Because of all the work we have done on the truck, I feel like we have a very good chassis set up. Now we need horsepower. We are really looking forward to getting our new Jenkins motor. The guys that have his new stuff are very quick. We want to be that quick, too.

"We are going to turn our attention to Columbus now. We will try and do some testing before we leave. I qualified fourth there last year. I don't see why we can't do it again.

The next stop on the NHRA schedule is the 37th Annual Pontiac Excitement Nationals NHRA Nationals in Columbus, Ohio June 14-17.
