Warren Johnson Will Roll Off Sixth in Chicago

Warren Johnson completed a solid qualifying performance at the NHRA Route 66 Nationals, improving on his performance from Friday, with each of his four runs among the quickest in Pro Stock during that session. Johnson's best pass of 6.842 seconds on Saturday morning, which had the second fastest top speed among the "factory hot rods" at 202.85 mph, placed the GM Performance Parts Grand Am in the sixth position for Sunday's final eliminations at Route 66 Raceway.

Making the strong performance even more impressive was that Johnson admitted that the crew had discovered and resolved a problem during the day that had plagued their race car at the last two events.

"Overall, I'd say we're fairly pleased with our performance in qualifying. This afternoon we discovered a very unusual problem with one of our rear shocks, which had contributed to the phenomena of our car pulling to the right during the last two races. We replaced the set with another that we had a good data set on, and actually improved our sixty-foot time. I think we have a pretty good tune-up for tomorrow, so I think our GM Performance Parts Grand Am will be fine."
