JOLIET, Ill. (June 10, 2005) --Tony Pedregon powered his 'Q' Racing Nitro Funny Car to a 4.780-second elapsed time at 323.50 mph to claim the No.5 qualifying position Friday at Route 66 Raceway.

NHRA officials were forced to delay qualifying due to rain showers. With cooler track and atmosphere temperatures, Pedregon clocked this effort during his second qualifying attempt of the eighth annual CARQUEST Auto Parts NHRA Nationals.

The NHRA Funny Car champion ponders over the strategy of his 'Q' Racing team.

"That was a good pass," Pedregon said. "But we're still working our way back to the performance we exhibited at the beginning of the year. There are many variables in drag racing that need to be worked. I think that tonight was a sign of what this team is able to accomplish. We want to keep working on consistency and performance so we make it to the winner's circle."
