NHRA Lucas Oil Products Nationals
Route 66 Raceway
May 31-June 3
Team Jeg's - Pro Stock
Last year at Route 66 Raceway, Troy Coughlin and his Jeg's Mail Order machine was the runner-up to Ron Krisher. He also was the runner-up in the rain delayed Holley Dominator Duel last year to his brother and teammate Jeg Jr. In 1999 Troy also scored a runner up finish. Troy has his sights set on returning to the final round and having a different outcome this year.
"We have proven that Team Jeg's knows how to get to the final round in the windy city. The weather conditions have always played a big factor at Route 66 Raceway and getting a firm handle on it can make the difference between winning and losing. The facility is among the best in the country and the fans have really embraced NHRA Winston Drag Racing with open arms. It is an energizing place to race and I am looking forward to it," said Troy
Troy enters the tenth race of the 2001 NHRA Winston Drag Racing season sitting in the No. 19 position. He has 195 points and is 209 points from breaking back into the top ten.
"Our goal is to be back into the top ten by the end of the Pontiac Excitement Nationals. Our next race is in our hometown (Columbus, Ohio) and that is a race that we will have plenty of eyes on our team," explained Troy.
Jeg Coughlin is ready to return to his winning ways at Route 66 Raceway. The reigning NHRA Winston Pro Stock Champion has won two of the nine races held so far this season. Jeg is ready to strike from the No. 4 position in the points and has 532 points. He trails Jim Yates by 34, Warren Johnson by 47 and Mark Pawuk currently has the lead by 94 points.
"Our number one problem as a team has not been capitalizing on the misfortunes of others. Staying focused can make the biggest difference. When the teams that are ahead of you in the points battle end their day early, you have to dig deep as a team and pass them without looking back," commented Jeg.
