Team Jeg's looks to Columbus.
Warmer conditions and direct sunlight made for a tough day of qualifying for the factory hot rods of the NHRA Pro Stock class. Team Jeg's drivers Jeg and Troy Coughlin were faced with the tough task of trying to get qualified in the field of sixteen, as both drivers entered the day out of the show.
Troy Coughlin defied the odds and posted his best time of the weekend in the afternoon heat. The Jeg's Mail Order Cavalier crossed the finish line with a pass of 6.91 seconds at 199.40 mph.
"We made some pretty substantial change and we were able to make one of the strongest runs of the session," commented Troy. "Unfortunately the conditions at the time of the run were such that we couldn't quite get into the field with that pass."
Jeg Coughlin was also in search of one of the first sixteen qualifying positions when he rolled his Jeg's Mail Order machine into the water-box. Jeg posted a respectable 6.93 second pass at 199.05 mph in his first attempt of the day.
"We knew that we were going to have to lean on it pretty hard if we were to try and get in on that pass," explained Jeg. "The car left pretty strong, but loosened up a little down track. That certainly affected our time."
Troy and Jeg continued to keep pace with the top half of the field in the events fourth and final round of qualifying with times of 6.93 and 6.96 seconds respectively. Unfortunately, the times were not quick enough to make it to the quick sixteen for Sunday's eliminations.
"We missed some opportunities Friday evening," commented Troy. "We had one of the better cars in the heat of the day today. Pro Stock racing is a pretty tough deal, we gave it a great shot today. Unfortunately a combination of elements weren't going to let us in despite our best efforts."
"It's never too much fun packing up and not getting the chance to run on Sunday," said Jeg. "We got off to a little slower start this weekend and it caught up with us. Racing can be a pretty tough deal, but our team will rebound quickly. We'll head back up to the Team Jeg's Research and Development Center and get ready for Columbus in a couple of weeks."
