In the opening round of the Holley Pro Stock Truck Dominator Duel Mike Coughlin faced off against Jeff Gracia. The match up pitted a Chevy S-10 against a GMC Sonoma.
The reaction time advantage went to the Jeg's machine by .019 seconds (.453 to .472). The two raced side-by-side to the finish line. The win light went on for Gracia. Mike ran a 7.591 at 178.61 mph.
"We just did not make a solid enough run for the first round. Every Pro Stock Truck that is a part of the Duel is capable of winning. There just is not any room for mistakes," explained Mike.
John went head-to-head with Bob Panella in round one. The advantage off of the line went to Coughlin by .036 seconds (.444 to .480). Panella mounted a late change for the win by .0688 seconds at the stripe. John ran a 7.546 at 179.11 mph.
"I knew that it was going to be close at the finish line. We just needed a little but more under the hood of the Jeg's machine," commented John.
The runs from the first round of the Holley Dominator Duel count as the third qualifying session times. Mike slipped to the No. 20 position and John moved down to the No. 18 slot.
During the final qualifying session Mike ran a 7.521 at 179.30 mph. He missed the field by .001 seconds.
"I will be helping all of my brothers to win tomorrow. We will leave from here and head back to our R&D facility to begin preparing for the Pontiac Excitement Nationals," said Mike.
John did improve in the final session. He ran a 7.499 at 179.18 mph. The run was good enough to move him into the No. 14 position. He will face off against recent event winner Don Smith.
"We knew what we had to do coming into the final session and Team Jeg's got it done. We will be ready in the morning to make some noise in the Jeg's Chevy S-10," said John.
