Whisnant hopes to turn his season around in Chicago

JOLIET, Ill. -- Mark Whisnant, driver of the RW Performance / Snap-On Tools Pro Stock Chevrolet Cavalier, feels good about this weekends 6th annual Lucas Oil Route 66 Nationals in Chicago, Ill. Whisnant, who has struggled as of late, feels he is on the brink of a performance turn around.

"I feel pretty good coming into this race," said Whisnant of Stockbridge, Ga. "We have not been running very well lately, but I feel like all that is about to change.

"We have been inching up in it. We get better with every run. Last weekend we qualified 13th, and then lost to Taylor Lastor in the first round. We lost not because we made a bad run, but because Taylor made a career run. That is encouraging and frustrating all at the same time.

"On Monday we tested in Topeka. We seemed to be moving in the right direction. We ran the same numbers as everyone else who tested there. That tells us that we are in the ballpark. All indicators say that we are headed in the right direction. Now we need to finesse and fine tune.

"I have a good car, and a great team. Now I just need the breaks to fall my way, and I think we can come out of Chicago looking good."
