Dixon and the Miller Lite Dragster qualify no.2 after rainy first day at Lucas Oil Nationals

JOLIET, IL (May 30) - Defending POWERade NHRA Champion Larry Dixon earned the No. 2 qualifying position Friday at the Sixth Annual Lucas Oil Nationals in Joliet, IL (May 29-June 1st). Dixon drive the Miller Lite dragster to a 4.575-second run at a speed of 325.53 mph during the first and only session of the day.

Evening rain paired with local tornado warnings prevented the second qualifying session. Fortunately Dixon's earlier run of 4.575 (ET), against Doug Kalitta would guarantee him the No. 2 spot headed into Saturday's qualifying session.

"We're still second after two sessions; we didn't ruin any tires, the clutch pack is in good shape; we don't have to replace that," reported crew chief Dick LaHaie. "The weather tomorrow is probably going to be 15 degrees different, well 10 degrees at least. So running tonight wasn't going to prove anything."

Sounds like the story of Topeka Kansas last weekend. Friday qualifying cut short after rain but not before Dixon scored the No.1 qualifying spot. The Don Prudhomme dragster finished the weekend by winning the title, allowing Dixon to claim a first career win at Heartland Park Topeka

The third session of qualifying begins tomorrow at 12:30PM (ET) followed by the fourth and final session at 3:30PM (ET).
