DIXON FINISHES NINTH FRIDAY AT JOLIET

JOLIET, Ill. (June 9, 2006) - Two days after throwing out the first pitch at nearby U.S. Cellular field in front of the defending World Series champion Chicago White Sox, two-time NHRA Top Fuel champion Larry Dixon raced his Miller Lite dragster to an elapsed time of 4.540 seconds Friday at Route 66 Raceway to earn the provisional No. 9 qualifying position.

The 38-time NHRA winner opened qualifying by powering his Miller Lite/Lucas Oil rail to a performance of 4.725 seconds at just 252.80 mph after dropping a cylinder and losing power. Friday evening under the lights at the Chicagoland quarter mile, Dixon blasted to a pass of 4.540 at 325.30 to record the ninth quickest run of the day and position himself in the field for Sunday's final eliminations. Last June, Dixon qualified sixth en route to a semifinal finish at Route 66 Raceway.

"It was real nice to get down the race track tonight after the trouble that we had on the first run," Dixon said.

There are two additional qualifying sessions scheduled for 1 and 4:30 p.m. (CT) Saturday at the record-setting Joliet drag strip.
