Wilson looking to start Division 3 season with bang.

JOLIET, Ill. - NHRA Top Alcohol Dragster driver Jeff Wilson will head into this weekend's Division 3 Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series opener at Route 66 Raceway just outside of Chicago with one goal in mind: winning. The 2000 Division 3 Champ not only wants to start a run to this year's Division Championship with his Associated Builders and Contractors/Starcon backed team, but also wants to make a strong showing for his sponsor Starcon, whose headquarters are just miles from the track.

Wilson, from Winfield, Mo., comes into this weekend's event hot off the heels of a strong debut of his new state-of-the-art Spitzer chassis, when he went to the quarterfinals of the O'Reilly Spring Nationals by virtue of mid 5.4 second performances. Despite wanting to try to squeeze even more out of his car, Wilson feels that the weather may play a large part of this weekend's qualifying, and just wants to get down the track.

"It looks like with the weather this may be a one-shot deal to qualify," said Wilson. "We're probably going to have to go in a little conservative to get it down the track. The forecast is calling for awful bad weather for tomorrow. Unless they decide to give us two shots today, we'll probably only have one shot to get in this deal. We probably won't get after it too much, and I don't know what we are going to learn from this one, because of what we are up against in the weather."

With close to 20 competitors vying to make the eight car field this weekend, Wilson feels it will still take a strong run to make the show. Based on their success in Houston and Route 66 Raceway's reputation as one of the best racing surfaces in the country, Wilson feels there should be no problem getting down the track.

"It looks like we have at least 15 cars here right now," stated Wilson. "I would hope we can try to get it in the mid 5.50's out of the trailer and be able to make the show. With some of the A/Fuel cars that are here, you never know. If they hit on all eight, you could very well have four cars in the 5.30's with the weather conditions we have here today. You never know anymore. There's a few more hitters here, so we are really 'under the gun' so to speak."

"We have a lot of people from ABC and Starcon this weekend," Wilson added. "With Starcon's headquarters being only about four miles up the road, we really would love to give them and ABC the win."

Qualifying begins on Friday at 4 p.m. for the Top Alcohol Dragsters, followed by two more sessions on Saturday. Final eliminations will conclude the event on Sunday. Stay tuned to InsideTopAlcohol.com for the latest news in alcohol racing.
