JOLIET, Ill. - After posting two straight final round appearances, NHRA Top Alcohol Dragster driver Shelly Howard will be looking to pick up her first win of the year during the resumption of this weekend's Division 3 Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event at Route 66 Raceway just outside of Chicago. Howard and her team hope that hot weather conditions will play into their hand this weekend.

Howard, from Tulsa, Okla., struggled early in the year with her new Dave Uyehara Chassis, but has been very strong and consistent in her last two appearances. While Howard is happy that the car is improving, she and her team are not content yet.

"I really can't say enough about what our tuner Tom Conway has done for us this year," said Howard. "He basically had to start from scratch to figure out what this car wanted. We seem like we are heading in the right direction, but we still need to find a little bit more. I have no doubt that Tom and the team will get us there the more runs we make down the track in this car."

The racers in Joliet received one qualifying pass before the event was postponed due to inclement weather. Howard is currently qualified fourth with a 5.519 second elapsed time. Qualifying will resume on Saturday, with final eliminations concluding the event on Sunday. Stay tuned to InsideTopAlcohol.com for the latest news in alcohol racing.
