A total of 43 Pro Stock drivers began the two-day qualifying battle for the Sears Craftsman NHRA Nationals at Route 66 Raceway. The 16 available spots in the field are as valuable gold right now.

Jeg Coughlin Jr landed in the No. 4 position after the first session and slipped to the No. 10 slot after the second session. The best run of the day for Jeg was a 6.837 at 201.61 mph from the first session.

"We left a lot on the table and that is really encouraging going into the second day of qualifying. Our group is focused on making a serious jump into the top half of the field in the morning session," explained Jeg.

Troy Coughlin and his yellow and black Jeg's Mail Order Chevy Cavalier will begin the second day on the outside looking in. The team did learn from both runs and is looking to make a solid jump into the field in the morning session on Saturday.

"We will be ready in the morning when the sun comes up. We know what we have to do to get the job done," said Troy.
