Whisnant to race KJ in Chicago.

JOLIET, Ill. -- Mark Whisnant, driver of the RW Performance Pro Stock Chevrolet Cavalier, will enter the 2nd Annual Craftsman 75th Anniversary NHRA Nationals holding the Ninth position on the Pro Stock eliminations ladder.

In the second session of qualifying Whisnant drove his Cavalier to a 6.832 / 201.31 mph to secure his position in tomorrow's race.

"Being fast and Number 1 qualifier is cool, but running well on race day is what it is all about.

"The car is very good right now. It feels real snappy on acceleration, and is very smooth through the gear changes. It is responding and handling better than it has all season. Bottom line is that I have a great racecar for eliminations tomorrow.

"Making fast runs in the slow session is what you need to do to be competitive in this Pro Stock class. We used today to make this racecar as competitive as possible. Today we made two good runs, and those are the kind of runs that we need to make on Sunday

Whisnant's opponent in Round 1 will be Kurt Johnson. So far this season Whisnant and Johnson have met three times in Round 1. The score to date is Johnson 3, Whisnant zero.

"It's my turn," said Whisnant. "My record against Kurt has not been very good. I am going to change that tomorrow morning."

Eliminations at the 2nd Annual Craftsman 75th Anniversary NHRA Nationals will begin at 11:00 AN CST on Sunday Sept. 29.
