Millican in Fourth Position Heading into Top Fuel Finals at NHRA Carquest Auto Parts Nationals
Chicago - October 2, 2004 Clay Millican of Team Werner/Lehman Racing qualified in the fourth position at the Carquest Auto Parts Nationals at Route 66 Raceway with an elapsed time of 4.540 at 326.16 mph.
"Today was a lot of fun," said Millican. "I love this Werner Enterprises car and crew, and I love racing in Chicago. Our team has a lot of history at this track and it feels good to go out there and put on a good show for Werner and our fans."

After the final qualifying run, he moved to the number four spot, which is his second best qualifying effort this season. His best was the number three spot at the K&N Filters Winternationals in Pomona, Calif.
"What a way for the blue Werner car to return to NHRA competition," said Millican. "They have been a loyal partner of ours for the last four years, so to give them a strong qualifying position is a great feeling."
Millican will face number 13 qualifier John Smith in the first round of Sunday's eliminations, set to begin at 11:00 a.m. CT. The two have never met in an NHRA elimination round in their careers.
The Chicago race is a sentimental favorite for Lehman Racing, as the team's first NHRA race took place here in 1998 in the Chicago White Sox dragster. Additionally, Chicago is the hometown of Team Owner Peter Lehman, and the team's business offices are located downtown.
Millican is a three-time IHRA Top Fuel Champion with Werner Enterprises, and is currently racing in the NHRA on a part-time basis. This is the first race since Gainesville 2003 that Werner Enterprises has served as the primary sponsor of the team in an NHRA national event. This race marks the ninth NHRA event in which Millican has competed this year, and he currently holds the number 13 spot in the NHRA POWERade Top Fuel points standings.
