HERBERT HAS STRONG WEEKEND, MAKES SEMIFINAL ROUND
Joliet, Ill. (June 10, 2007) Doug Herbert, driver of the Snap-on Tools Top Fuel dragster, came to the Torco Racing Fuels Route 66 NHRA Nationals prepared to make a good showing.
After qualifying in the No. 5 position, Herbert and Snap-on Tools team squared off against Alan Bradshaw in opening round action. Herbert took the round win and advanced to the quarterfinals after crossing through the lights with a 4.84 second pass at 237 mph.
Herbert faced Bob Vandergriff Jr. in the next round. Both cars smoked the tires shortly after the green light, but Herbert recovered and pedaled the Snap-on Tools dragster back in the groove to take the win light and move on to the semifinals.
The crowd at Route 66 Raceway watched Herbert and Larry Dixon battle for the right to race in the final round. Herbert's solid 4.71 second pass fell just two tenths of a second shy of placing him in the final round, with Dixon taking the semifinal win.
"We're happy with our results," said Herbert. "We rebounded from a bad week and have learned quite a bit. We're getting better at reading the track and it shows in our results.
"We're really coming together as a team. The guys did a good job and gave us one of the most consistent cars in qualifying. That put us in a nice position for race day. Five good cars didn't make the show which allowed us to move up in points and gain some ground on making the Countdown to the Championship.
"We had lots of Snap-on executives and employees in attendance this weekend, and making it to the semifinal round with them watching was great. We plan to keep it up. We will spend the next two weeks getting ready to make another strong showing in Englishtown."
