JOLIET, Ill. (May 31, 2003) -- Saving the best for his last qualifying pass, David Baca, driver of the Henkelman & Baca American Racing/Waterloo Tool Storage/Skill Clean Top Fuel Dragster, qualified in the top half of the field of 16 for the sixth time in the last seven events.

Baca's pass of 4.561 seconds at 325.30 mph in Saturday's second qualifying session was good for fifth on the qualifying grid. The speed of 325.30 was a career best.

"We had been picking up the pace all weekend. It was a do or die situation. Wow! What a drag race. We got to run the champ (Larry Dixon). It you can't get up for the people I had to run today -- Kenny Bernstein and Larry Dixon -- you're in the wrong ballgame. In that last race, we ran a career best speed. It shows the capability of this American Racing/Waterloo dragster. Hopefully, we'll continue to improve each run tomorrow," said Baca.

Baca's opponent in the opening round of eliminations, which begin at 12 noon tomorrow, will be Jim Head. Head qualified 12th with a pass of 4.668 seconds at 317.42 mph. Eliminations for all classes will begin at 12 noon tomorrow. ESPN2 will televised a taped-delayed eliminations show tomorrow 7-10 p.m. All times Eastern and subject to change.
