Joliet, Ill., May 22, 2004 - Former Funny Car champion Cruz Pedregon qualified the Advance Auto Parts Chevrolet Monte Carlo 10th for the NHRA Route 66 Nationals in Joliet, Ill with his elapsed time of 4.831 seconds at 305.63 mph ran during the Friday night session.

During the first session today the Advance Auto Parts racing team ran an elapsed time of 4.947 seconds at 294.75 mph. The second qualifying session was canceled due to persistent rain showers.

"We dropped a cylinder during that qualifying session," said Pedregon. "We're disappointed that we didn't get in the final qualifying session but we did have a good day yesterday. If we have a cloud cover tomorrow like we did today, we should see some great racing tomorrow. The crew has been working very hard and we're looking forward to the race, putting some consistent runs together and going some rounds."

Pedregon will face Tim Wilkerson in round one when final eliminations begin tomorrow at 11:00 a.m. Pedregon is 4-4 against Wilkerson in race day competition.
