Weaver and Meer to do battle in Indy
CLERMONT, Ind. - In football, it's the Super Bowl, in baseball, it's the World Series, in circle track racing it's the Indy 500, and in NHRA Drag Racing, it's this weekend's Mac Tools U.S. Nationals at the famed Indianapolis Raceway Park, the biggest event in all of drag racing. Top Alcohol Funny Car driver John Weaver and the Meer Capital Partners team have been 'training' all year for this event, and hope to shine this weekend among the best of the best.
Weaver, from Orting, Wash., is no stranger to success behind the wheel, a multi-time Division 7 Champion behind the wheel of his family's Top Alcohol Funny Car. Now a hired gun for the Meer Capital Partners backed team owned by Ron Meer and tuned by Bob DeVour, Weaver hopes the trio can enjoy a successful weekend among the best racers in the country.
"Everyone brings their 'A' game to Indy," said Weaver. "You have to be on top of it to do good there. We're going to do our best to bring our 'A' game as well. Bob and Ron have given me a fast hot rod to drive at every race, so I'm just going to do my best to do my job behind the wheel."
Competing at the top level is a goal that team owner Ron Meer has worked towards since forming the team. He is excited about realizing that goal in Indy this weekend.
"We've worked hard to put together a team that can run with anyone in the country; that's been our goal since day one," stated Meer. "We feel like we have the pieces in place to run at that level now. It will be no easy task to go rounds this weekend, but we're certainly looking forward to the challenge. It will be hard work, but the reward of winning at this event is well worth it."
Qualifying begins on Thursday for the alcohol cars and ends on Saturday. Eliminations begin on Sunday morning and final eliminations will conclude the event on Monday.
