Coughlin brothers resume title chases in Joliet
JOLIET, Ill. (June 14) -- One week after their brother, Jeg, won the Pro Stock title at the Torco Race Fuels Route 66 Nationals, John and Mike Coughlin are hoping to have similar success at Route 66 Raceway. The Team JEGS drivers will head for Joliet to compete in this weekend's NHRA Division 3 Lucas Oil Series event. John will race in Top Dragster and Super Stock while Mike will compete in the Top Sportsman class.
"I haven't raced as much as I'd like to this year due to family and business obligations but now its time for Mike and I to get serious about winning some races," said John. "The entire JEGS Mail Order team and all of our associates had a really good week thanks to Jeggie's Pro Stock win. Hopefully Mike and I can keep up the momentum and come home with a trophy or two."
John won the first Top Dragster event he entered this year with his new Undercover Chassis built dragster and he is the current points leader in that class. He has also turned in a couple of strong outings with his Chevy Cobalt Super Stock entry, which is also new for 2007.
Mike Coughlin enters the Joliet event ranked second in the Division 3 Top Sportsman standings although he has competed in just three events, one fewer than current leader Billy Vaughn. Like his brother, he's anxious to get back behind the wheel of his 6-second, 200-mph Cobalt.
"Our JEGS team has been steadily working on my car and we've not got it to the point where it is both fast and consistent," said Mike. "The car is a real pleasure to drive. Route 66 Raceway is one of the best racetracks in the country and this is one of our biggest divisional events so I'm expecting a record field in Top Sportsman. It should be a lot of fun."
The Route 66 Raceway event is the second of seven NHRA Division 3 Lucas Oil Series events scheduled for 2007. Qualifying will take place on Friday and Saturday, June 15-16 and final eliminations will begin at 8 a.m. on Sunday, June 17.
