Haley set to return to competition in Topeka
TOPEKA, Kan. - Armed with a new racecar and new confidence, NHRA Top Alcohol Dragster driver John Haley will return to competition during this weekend's O'Reilly Summer Nationals at Heartland Park in Topeka, Kan. Haley suffered a horrendous top end crash at the Division 2 opener at Gainesville Raceway in February, and will debut his brand new Dave Uyehara chassis this weekend.
Haley, from Wayzata, Minn., hopes to use this weekend to get his new car lined out and reenter the championship chase. With the car being a clone to the one he won the Mac Tools U.S. Nationals with and the same crew of veterans Mike Cooper and Denny Savage, Haley and team hope to pick up where they left off.
"We want to use this weekend to get the new car lined out," said Haley. "Of course, we hope that doesn't take that long and we can jump right back in the mix. The car is identical to the other car, except the car is built for a guy my size instead of Jay Meyer's size. You can actually tell I'm in the car in this one. The whole team is looking forward to getting back on track this weekend."
"We still plan to make a hard run for the championship," Haley continued. "We still have a lot of races we can go to, and I have the utmost confidence in 'Coop' to make this car a contender right off the bat."
Qualifying begins on Friday with two sessions followed by one final session Saturday afternoon. First round of eliminations will be ran Saturday evening and final eliminations will conclude the event on Sunday. Stay tuned to InsideTopAlcohol.com for the latest news in alcohol racing.
