Ford Racing Performance Parts has become an associate sponsor on John Force's Team Castrol Mustang Funny Car for the 1999 season. The Ford Racing Performance Parts signage will be prominently displayed on Force's Mustang all season as the Yorba Linda, Calif., racer goes after his record setting ninth NHRA national Funny Car championship. "This is a perfect fit for Ford Racing Performance Parts," stated Dan Davis, director, Ford Racing Technology. "John's outstanding on-track achievements will serve as a great showcase for Ford's Performance Parts program. Our performance parts customers are drag racing fans. They drive and race Mustangs, too." The largest percentage of current Ford performance parts sales are to Ford Mustang enthusiasts who appreciate the power of Force's record-setting speeds and the reliability of the parts such as the Ford V8 engine used by Dyson Racing to win the 1999 Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona. Force smashed funny car records last year when he a posted a 323.89 mph pass in his Ford Mustang at the Mopar Parts Nationals. The run marked the first time in NHRA history that a Funny Car recorded a speed faster than a Top Fuel Dragster. Then at the Revell Nationals John became the first Funny Car driver to make a run in under 4.80 seconds with a 4.787 in Dallas. "I'm really excited about the Ford Racing Performance Parts deal," stated Force. "The Mustang hotrod has been really awesome on the quarter mile, and this sponsorship is just another way to tell the world how great Ford Racing and Ford's performance parts are. We're looking forward to being a part of getting that message out." "This sponsorship makes sense because it puts the name and logo in front of fans of the most visible and popular program in drag racing. We see this as a very important part of the racing business at Ford Motor Company," Davis continued. "We've seen our performance parts sales more than double in the past five years and we want to continue to grow that number as we head into the next century, because all the profits from that program are put back into our racing program to help it stay competitive against the best manufacturers in the world." Performance devotees will likely see John Force and other Ford Racing celebrities in advertising to raise the awareness of the performance parts market and the Ford product line. In addition, two display trailers with new graphics will appear at racing events and enthusiast shows around the country in 1999, and a dedicated Ford Racing Performance Parts website is under construction and will open soon. These developments are in addition to the Company's increased presence at events like the Specialty Equipment Manufacturers' Association (SEMA) show, and other United States performance trade shows.
