Huntersville, N.C. (Oct. 3, 2000) - After six years and 33 NHRA victories, Joe Gibbs Racing has announced it will end its drag racing program after the 2000 season. Cory McClenathan will continue to drive the MBNA Top Fuel dragster for Joe Gibbs Racing for the remainder of the year.

"Cory Mac, [crew chief] Wes Cerny and our crew members are among the best in racing, and we have a great sponsor in MBNA America Bank, which remains committed to the NHRA," said Joe Gibbs. "We wish everyone involved with our team continued success in NHRA racing in the future."

McClenathan has driven for Joe Gibbs Racing since 1995, finishing second in the overall driver point standings three times - 1995, 1997 and 1998. This year, McClenathan stands seventh in overall points and won the NHRA all-star event, the Winston Showdown at Bristol (Tenn.) Dragway.
